Lil Yachty Takes Georgia State

To say class was interesting today would be an understatement.

I walk into class, about five minutes late like I usually do, and guess who's front and center.

Lil Yachty was apart of a panel for our Music Journalism class today. He was joined by his father, Shannon McCollum, and Day 1 Radio hosts, Branden Peters and Maurice Garland. Throughout the class, the panel answered questions about everything journalism and Yachty. We got advice on how to use social media, especially Instagram, the right way, what artists like and hate about interviews, and also how to market yourself.

We also got to learn about Yachty. He went into depth about his time at Alabama State and shared with us the exact moment he knew he wanted to rap. It was his first class after getting out of jail and he said everything was different. The class was more boring than usual, he noticed nobody paying attention and everybody on their phones, and that's when it hit him. He said he didn't want to do this for the next four years and maybe not get a job. He dropped out, told his mom to give him a year to make it as a rapper, and if he doesn't he would go back to school. Well we all know how that turned out.

We also got the first scoop on the latest news involving Yachty. He let us know of his new sponsorship with Reebok and he gave us an idea of what to expect on 'Lil Boat 2'. He told us that 'Lil Boat 2' will feature a lot more rapping, taking it back to the old Yachty sound. He said there will be less of the melodic singing songs like 'Better' and 'Forever Young' and to expect more tracks like 'Dirty Mouth' on there.

After the Panel, Yachty and the rest of the panelists stayed back and chopped it up with the students. Yachty waited back and took some pics.

And gave a HUUGE S/O to WhyToby?

A big thanks goes out to the Professor Of The Year, Christopher Daniels, for organizing such an amazing class period. His class is definitely one all aspiring music journalists at Georgia State should take.

Make sure you return to WhyToby? for the Lil Yachty Feature Friday Interview, coming very soon.
